The McGregor Food and Wine Festival plans to build on the last year's event which attracted over 700 people to McGregor to sample the valleys wines and experience the very best culinary produce that the town's restaurants and eateries can provide. For the Festival the whole village comes out to play and shows off its talent for making wine. The locals also provide food to tempt the taste buds. One of the highlights of this Festival is the special offers that the local wineries make for this one day only event. Some of the cellars discount their wines by 25% and some offer to the public for the first time this years recently bottled gems.
Local wines on offer include McGregor, Lords, Kingsriver, Tanagra, Buffalo Creek, Koningsrivier, Wolfdoring, Buitenhof and Wonderfontein with a few of the smaller boutique cellars from Robertson such Wolfkloof and Wederom.
The great attraction of this great day out is the opportunity to talk on a one to one basis with the helpful wine makers and owners of the estates who are there for the serious tasters and buyers. All tastings are included in the very reasonable admission charge of R50. "This is one of the best and most reasonable of all Food and wine Festivals in the Western Cape" one visitor was heard to say last year "I just wish I could come every week!"
The food offerings on sale are usually a fantastic treat for guests. From local Cheeses, organic vegetables, food and wine pairings, breads, brioche, local olives, and soups, to the more sophisticated culinary offerings of local restaurants who attend such as Café Tebaldi's, Karoux, Lords Guest Lodge, Green Gables, Frangipani, Deli Girls, McGregor Country House, Kingsriver, Jacob's Larder, Jack and Grape and Oblivion. Many of these restaurants are offering Food and Wine Festival weekend specials.
This annual festival has grown in reputation and now provides the beautiful village of McGregor with one of its weekend highlights. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by singer and local celebrity Andre Combrinck, the Langeberg Steel band trained by John Hargreaves, the McGregor brass band as well as Lauren the Clown and Shamanzi. In all there is something for everyone and it is a day not to be missed! This year there is also a touch of sophistication on Friday night with "Cocktails and Laughter" a Noel Coward Cabaret performed by the well known locals John, Rodney, Atholl and Lisa. All previous performances have been a sell out at the Wolfdoring cellar.
And for Saturday evening a 1960/1970's disco is planned! Make a weekend of it.
