CAVALLI GALLERY PRESENTS: BLINK | A GROUP STUDENT EXHIBITION
23. 07. 2017 – 03. 09. 2017
The exhibition will open on Sunday, 23 July, between the hours of 4pm & 6pm
“Compassion is an unstable emotion. It needs to be translated into action, or it withers. The question of what to do with the feelings that have been aroused, the knowledge that has been communicated. If one feels that there is nothing ‘we’ can do — but who is that ‘we’? — and nothing ‘they’ can do either — and who are ‘they’ — then one starts to get bored, cynical, apathetic.”
– Susan Sontag, Regarding the Pain of Others
Cavalli Gallery in collaboration with the University of Stellenbosch’s Visual Art Department is proud to present BLINK.
The student artists were asked to explore and draw inspiration from the readings of Susan Sontags ‘Regarding The Pain of Others’ and Albie Sach’s ‘Spring Is Rebellious.’
The artists were then encouraged to create work that focused on the notion of seeing, noticing and recording, looking critically at the context within which they see, and re-see the world around them.
The exhibition spans video, performance, drawing, photography, installation and sculptural works of art.
Exhibited artists: Strauss Louw, Chelsea Young, Kirstin Warries, Emma Aspeiling, Paul Marais, Carina Jansen, Nadja Reinmuth, Estèe Skein, McKayla Carstens, Rushda Deaney, Trude Gunther, Brad Jackson, Amy Pike, Megan Serfontein and Simone Verfaille.
The exhibition will run until the 03 September 2017. Gallery hours are Wednesday – Sunday, 10h00 – 18h00.
