Kids that want to experience a second Christmas can meet Father Christmas at the last Full-moon Picnic of the year at the Afrikaanse Taalmonument in Paarl on Saturday 26 December.
Parents should bring their children’s gifts to the Visitor Centre beforehand to be included in Father Christmas’ stocking. Father Christmas should make his appearance by 19:00.
Local as well as international visitors enjoy these picnics for the unbeaten sunset and night time views of the valley.
Sunset will be at 19:59 and moonrise at 20:44. There will be a guided tour of the monument at 18:30. The monument will be open until 22:00.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics or they can order one from Volksmond Coffee Shop (tel. 021 863 2800). Volksmond will be open for coffee and light refreshments. Visitors are reminded to bring along a torch and warm clothes. No dogs and fires are allowed. Safe parking is available and access is controlled.
Tickets are R25 for adults, R10 for SA students and R5 for children (free under six years), available from Computicket and at the gate. No booking is required. Annual permits are available at the Taalmonument at R120 for individuals or R220 per family, which includes access to Full-moon Picnics.
In 2016, Full-moon Picnics will take place on 23 January and 20 February. For more information about events at the Taalmonument, call 021 863 0543/4809 or visit www.taalmonument.co.za.
The picnic series is presented in aid of the Taalmuseum’s reading project for children, Let’s Read! Visitors are encouraged to bring along a new or secondhand children’s book in support of the project.
