  • VENUE Riebeek Valley

The 2018 festival has been cancelled due to drought. The next festival is planned to take place 4 and 5 May 2019

The Riebeek Valley has established itself as the primary olive oil and olive producing region in South Africa. Riebeek Kasteel not only boasts some of the top olive producers in the country, it is also home to trained olive oil graders. The wines from the Swartland are also of an extraordinary quality and very much in demand winning prestigious local and international awards.

The ever-popular Riebeek Valley Olive Festival takes place on the first weekend of May each year, in celebration of a successful olive harvest. This is when the towns of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West open their doors and hearts to visitors by showcasing their finest produce: olives, wine, craft beer, food, organic soaps and gifts are but a few of the treasures they have to offer. Taste buds can be tantalized with some of the Swartland’s finest food and wine.

A choice of live music, kids’ entertainment, tractor rides, colourful local culture and family fun will enhance the belief that this is no ordinary festival, this is pure Riebeek magic at its best.

The largest of its kind in Southern Africa, the Festival is hosted by the beautiful twin hamlets of Riebeek West to highlight the region’s prosperous olive industry and is also an opportunity for visitors to sample the neighbouring wine farms, showcasing the very best of the food and wine, art and music of the twin Swartland towns of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West.

Winner of the West Coast Tourism Awards in the “tourism event” category, and an official event on Cape Town Tourism’s “Cape of Great Events”, the Riebeek Valley Olive Festival centers on this hallowed fruit, offering every imaginable twist on olives and olive oils, preserves and tapenades, as well as a wide selection of olive-based beauty products. Events and activities running throughout the weekend will include art exhibitions, performance-art shows, music, dance and acting, while informal market stalls will offer everything from food-on-the-move to handcrafted jewellery, clothing and collectibles. The Valley offers a range of overnight options to suit every taste and pocket, from self-catering cottages and B&Bs to luxurious hotel accommodation.
