* 2016 dates to be confirmed * The annual Calitzdorp Port & Wine Festival is being rejuvenated in 2015 with a unique full month “Winter in Calitzdorp” experience instead of just a festival weekend.
Visit Calitzdorp for a little warmth in the middle of winter at the Winter in Calitzdorp festival. A firm favourite amongst the Southern Cape locals and die hard Cape “Port” enthusiasts this year’s festival will offer far more than the sweet vinous treats this sleepy Klein Karoo hamlet has to offer and a few stalls.
Visitors will not only be treated by our halcyon, mild winter weather but will have ample opportunity to enjoy our champion red wines, and naturally, the flagship offering from our area, the champion Cape Ports. Unusual food and wine parings, including our renowned ports, will be on offer together with a fabulous diversity of other festive events.
Calitzdorp is the ideal winter destination! Our days are mild and sunny and when evening falls, there is little to surpass the enjoyment of a glass of Cape Port or world class red wine while enjoying the warmth of a hearth fire – the ideal way to escape the wet winter weather of other parts of the country.
Besides the festival activities in and around the town, there are many routes around the area such as the Groenfontein / Kruisriver route along which one finds the stunning Redstone Hills, Rooiberg pass and nature reserve, Van Wyksdorp, Matjiesvleias well as the surrounding area in and around Oudtshoorn for the festival goers to explore.
